Semen Freezing:-

In semen freezing, these stored sperm are frozen for assisted reproductive procedures, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI), or sperm donation.
Before the preservation of semen, the doctor will go through the following test:-
- Screening for infections like HIV, hepatitis, and testing for syphilis
- Analysis of sperm quality and quantity
- Freezing of viable sperm

How does semen freezing work?
Sperm collection is done at home or clinic with a sterile lubricant that doesn’t harm sperm quality. Men are usually asked to withdraw from intercourse for approximately two days prior, to get the best specimen quality.
After collection, it is tested usually sperm quality and its movement.
If in any case, sperm is not present in ejaculation or sample, a surgical procedure is performed to get sperm directly from the testes.
Lab technicians use cryoprotectants or anti-freeze agents to preserve and protect sperm cells. The frozen sperm is then stored in the lab until needed by the patient. When the proper time comes, the sperm is thawed, washed, and tested for mobility prior to use in IUI or IVF.
Is there any risk of freezing semen?
There is no risk or side effect of collecting sperm semen. If because for any reason, surgical extraction is required there are some small risks like bleeding or discomfort but it can be healed with time.
